Hey man, a few short questions

a) Do you see anything at all like the B.I.O.S?
b) Have you tested the mointor on another computer?
c) Does it sound like the hardrive is spinning when you turn on the computer?

Try these:

a) Check the graphics card is pushed into the slot.
b) Remove the hard drive and put it into a USB caddy to grab your files.
c) Make sure the contrast and brightness on the mointor haven't been set to zero

I support

"b) Remove the hard drive and put it into a USB caddy to grab your files."

and backing up to an external HDD or thumb drive (which a customer recently refered to as a 'brain stick' ... i wonder if it will catch on?") or burning to DVD.

Bad Nick for not backing up!!! RARRR!!

OK i'm drunk now.

You first need a caddy, normally about £10. Worth having one, I use mine loads to make backups and the great thing is you can swap drives easily.

So get a caddy, unscrew you harddrive, put it in the caddy and then connect the USB. Thats it your away!

nup - caddies for 2.5 inch hard disks are about a tenner. for a 3.5", they are usually around £25. the larger 3.5s need an external power supply you see, whereas the 2.5s take power from the usb connection.

However,

i have seen a simple IDE-USB adaptor for £10. there's your job half done. otherwise, you could try connecting it in as a slave device inside another pc.

i'm thinking connecting as a slave, i can't find a caddy and i don't even know which one i should be looking for, so slaving it is my option

Remember to change your jumpers if your setting it as a slave!

i just last month discovered from a UT geek that you only need to reset the jumpers if it is sharing the same IDE cable as the master. If its not on the same cable it doesn't make a blind bit of difference so long as the bios is set up right.
